Understanding

Our team understands the intricacies of the property tax industry and is able to leverage our vast knowledge of valuation, tax impacts, information and the legal landscape to provide the most fulsome approach to any and all client needs.

Litigation

Assessment appeals are a litigation process. Appeals are filed with the Assessment Review Board, which is a "court-like” tribunal and the assessing authority (“MPAC" in Ontario) typically uses legal counsel to represent it on appeals of large and complex properties. Managing the litigation process and out-maneuvering MPAC’s lawyers requires experienced legal counsel. We make informed recommendations based on the current legislation and case law, as well as the opinions of our seasoned experts to ensure that the best litigation strategy is developed and pursued to a successful conclusion.

Flexibility

As an independent law firm, we are not beholden to any one consulting firm. Rather, we have the flexibility to choose from the wide range of valuation experts available. We ensure that our experts are independent and credible if they need to testify before the Board. Although most matters settle, as litigation lawyers, we are prepared to take matters to a full hearing if necessary.
